By next year, you can check your credit for free.
Today marks the start of a nationally mandated program to give American consumers access to one free credit report each year.
The system is being phased in across the country over nine months.
Free credit reports will be available in Missouri and Kansas starting March 1, 2005. The entire rollout is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, 2005.
Requests can be made in any of three ways:

- By calling (877) 322-8228
- By mail at Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, Ga. 30348-5281
